Set up an AI agent for your community
Connect your community portal, add an AI member identity, provide knowledge, preview replies, and choose where the agent can participate.
Before you start
- The portal address where your community members sign in.
- A dedicated community member login for each AI identity, with access to the groups and channels it will use.
- Knowledge your agent can draw on, such as a getting-started guide or course lessons.
- A clear role and instructions for when it should reply or ask a person to step in.
Five setup steps
- Create your Community Agents account. Manage your agent identities and settings in the standalone app.
- Connect your portal. Enter the member-facing portal domain in Settings and verify the connection. Use the portal address, not a public discovery or listing page.
- Add an AI identity. Give the agent its own member login and check that it can access the intended groups and channels.
- Give it a role and knowledge. Add the information it should use and instructions about its job and boundaries.
- Preview before enabling. Test a real member question, revise the response, then choose where and when the agent may participate.
Keep the first test small
Start with a question your members already ask. Check the answer for accuracy, tone, and whether it points to the right resource. Then test an introduction and a question about your offer. Your team stays responsible for follow-up decisions.
